Our Recommendation

Use Uber or InDrive. Request pickup from the departures level(one floor up). It's the cheapest, safest, and most convenient option. Budget $5-11 depending on your destination and traffic.

All Options Compared

Uber / InDrive / DiDi

Recommended
30-60 min 20-45k COP ($5-11)

Connect to airport WiFi, request ride from the departures level (one floor up from arrivals). Walk upstairs or take the elevator. This avoids confrontation with taxi drivers at arrivals.

Pros

  • Cheapest option
  • Tracked ride with driver ID
  • No cash needed
  • Price fixed before ride

Cons

  • Pick up from departures level (not arrivals)
  • Surge pricing during rush hour
  • Technically grey-area legal status

InDrive is usually cheapest — you set your price and drivers accept or counter. DiDi often has new-user promos.

Official Airport Taxi

30-60 min 30-70k COP ($7-17)

Go to the official taxi counter in the arrivals hall (look for 'TAXI' signs). They'll give you a receipt with an estimated fare. The taxi will be waiting outside. Only use this official counter — ignore anyone approaching you in the terminal.

Pros

  • Official, regulated, safe
  • Counter inside terminal
  • No app needed
  • Handles luggage

Cons

  • More expensive than ride apps
  • Meter can be confusing
  • Some overcharging reported

Confirm the estimated fare at the counter before getting in. Keep the receipt. Pay in pesos — USD exchange at the counter is terrible.

TransMilenio Bus

60-90 min ~3,400 COP ($0.80)

Exit the terminal and follow signs to the TransMilenio feeder bus stop. Take the feeder to Portal El Dorado, then connect to the main TransMilenio trunk line. You'll need a TuLlave card (buy at the station, ~5k COP with credit).

Pros

  • Incredibly cheap
  • Runs frequently
  • Good for light travelers

Cons

  • Slow with connections
  • Difficult with heavy luggage
  • Crowded at rush hour
  • Not intuitive for first-time visitors

Only recommended if you're on a strict budget AND traveling light. For most people, the $5 Uber is worth the convenience.

Private Transfer

30-50 min 80-150k COP ($19-36)

Book through your hotel (most mid-range and above offer this) or via platforms like GetTransfer. The driver meets you in arrivals with a sign. Worth it if arriving late at night or with heavy luggage.

Pros

  • Driver waiting with your name
  • No hassle, no apps
  • Good for late arrivals
  • Can arrange in advance

Cons

  • Most expensive option
  • Must book ahead
  • Less flexible than ride apps

Many hotels include airport pickup in the room rate if you book direct. Always ask.

Arrival Checklist
  • Buy a SIM card at the airport. Claro and Movistar have kiosks in arrivals (10-20k COP for 10GB). You'll need data for ride apps and maps.
  • Withdraw cash from the ATMs inside the terminal — you'll need pesos for small purchases. Bancolombia ATMs have the best rates.
  • Don't exchange money at the airport counters — the rates are terrible. Use ATMs instead.
  • El Dorado has free WiFi — connect to request your ride app before leaving the terminal.
  • The airport is at 2,547m elevation. You may feel slightly short of breath. Take it easy.
  • If arriving late at night (after 11pm), use a ride app or pre-booked transfer. Don't walk around the airport area.
