Money-Saving Tips
  • The 'almuerzo ejecutivo' (set lunch) is your secret weapon — a full meal for 12-18k COP ($3-4) at any local restaurant.
  • TransMilenio costs ~2,950 COP ($0.70) per ride. Buy a reloadable TuLlave card at any station (~5k COP with initial credit).
  • Uber, InDrive, and DiDi all work in Bogota. InDrive is cheapest (you negotiate the price).
  • Museums are free on the last Sunday of every month — plan accordingly.
  • ATM withdrawals: use Bancolombia ATMs inside banks or malls for safety and the best rates. ATMs charge 3-5k COP ($0.70-1.20) per transaction — withdraw larger amounts (500k-800k COP) to minimize fees.
  • Many restaurants add a 10% 'propina voluntaria' to the bill. You can decline, but it's expected.
  • Colombian pesos use periods as thousands separators: 50.000 COP = 50,000 COP = ~$12.
